Literary essay of "My Grandmother´'s Knitting"

    "My Grandmother's Knitting", written by Liz Lockhead, is about the knitting of a grandmother whose family always tells her that there is no need, but she continues because for her it is a necessity, not just a hobby. In this essay the theme of The Aging Process and the symbolism of The Grandmother's Hands will be analised.
    The theme "The Aging Process" is represented through the grandmother's hands because there is a constant conflict between the past and the present. When she was a young girl she did a lot of things and now she can only knit, but dir her family knitting is just a skill from the past that they do not appreciate it "But they say there is no need". But she continues knitting because for her it is a necessity and it also helps her feel she is still useful.
   The symbolism of this poem are "The grandmother's hands" and it represents the passing of time. It refers to the great effort she had done during her life " Once the hands of the mother of six who made do and mended" and also all the knitting that she did. It also represents the changing roles that she had over her life, going from a young fisher-girl "As if your hands were once again those sure and skillful hands of the fisher-girl" to becoming an old grandmother who can not many things as before "You are old now and your grasp of things is not so good".
    The theme of The Aging Process and the symbolism of The Grandmother's Hands were analysed in this poem. In my opinion it is a nice poem and also the theme is very well represented during it. Because it also try to represent how society see people nowadays.

The wild swans

   Long ago when the unjust kings still ruled, there lived a young girl named Lucy, who worked in a bakery with her father and two brothers. She was happy, but trapped in her own world, bewildered by the hard, cold reality, because while she had fun, her father had to work hard every day to feed them and pay high taxes imposed by the king.
    A day like any other Lucy woke up late, and looked out the window. There she saw her father working and her brothers playing in the street. Suddenly someone shouted -Beware of the wild swans- From one moment to another, the swans came running and took her brothers. She ran downstairs but when she came it was too late.
    That night, Lucy escaped from home and went into the woods. She walked for a day following the footsteps of the swans. But when night came she decided to lie down and fell asleep. The swans found her exhausted and decided to take her with them.
   When she woke up, she was shocked by all the swans around her. One approached her and said -Don't be afraid, we won't hurt you- She was surprised that the swans could speak, but the weirdest thing was that the swan seemed familiar. -Lucy, I'm your brother- he said and continued -The swans brought us by mistake when hunters persecuted them, they were so concerned on escaping that they couldn't realize that we were with them- Then Lucy asked -But how did you become a swan?- Her brother answered -If you drink the water of the enchanted river you'll become a swan. Drink it and you'll live here happy forever!- But that was the last time she ever saw them...

Diary entry

Tuesday 4th May 1950
   Dead diary,

  Today it's tuesday and I have all the day free, so I will take some time to write about my life. It's a screaming bore and I also have this sick in the stomach feeling of being trapped in old mistakes. I know that was my fault the holdup of that licor store, but I think that is unfair to punish me all my life for only one mistake. I don't like Rosa, she is too plain and lank a chick for my personal taste. I also don't like the candy store, I would have liked to finish studying how to be a shoemaker, but I can't, instead of that I have to spend the rest of my life working from eight in the morning to almost midnight every day.

Monday 10th May 1950
   Dear diary,

   Today it started like a normal day. All mondays comes the same little girl asking for two rolls of colored tissue paper. But in the morning, Rosa has just hung a mirror on the back wall, and when I opened the drawer to get the girl her paper, I looked up and saw in the glass a white hand reached into the candy case and took two chocolate, then she came back from behind the counter and stood there, innocently waiting for me. At the beginning I felt angry but then I felt pity because I don't want that little girl to end like me. I wanted yo warm her to cut it out before she got trapped and fouled up her life before it got started. But I can't.

 

Shailene Woodley

We had to choose a famous person that we like and make a text about him/her.

    Shailene Diann Woodley is an American actress. She was born the 15th of November in 1991 in California. Her mother is called Lory Victor, her father, Lonnie Woodley and she also has a younger brother. She started acting in 1999, but the first time I saw her was in a 2014 movie called "Divergent".

    She has green eyes and light brown hair but she is always dying it for her movie roles. She is very beautiful and also thin.

    Shailene is a very active person and always with a lot of energy, but she appears to be in controle. She shows courage and effort while facing difficulties. One thing that I admire from her is that she has her own ideas of how to do things. She is a risk-taker, original  and highly creative.

    Her hobbies are climbing, acting, backpacking, cycling, running and camping. Her favourite sports are basketball and ice hockey. She loves music and her favourite bands are The Beatles, Arcade Fire, Blue Foundation and Bon Iver.

    Shailene has won many prizes: Best Supporting Actress, Best Young Actress, Favourite Character, Best Famele Performance, Dramatic, Choise Movie Actress, etc., and more than 20 nominations. She has also won Best Kiss with Ansel Elgort and in two different movies won Favourite Movie Dou in "Divergent" and "The Faul of Our Stars". These are my two favourite movies of Shailene Woodley. In my opinion she is a great actress because I love when she does cying scenes, they seem so real that you forget that it is a movie and you start crying too.
